It's summer time. And we all know what that means Ladies - Lay back, relax and get that tan you've been dreaming about since those dreaded winter months. No better way to spend the long summer days than relaxing pool side and getting that tan going!
It's great when the sun's big bold beautiful rays are showering us, but we sometimes forget how adverse of an effect they can have on our skin. Skin cancer, sunburn, and premature aging are just a few of the side effects of letting harmful UV rays come in contact with your skin. So how can we maintain a healthy tan while ensuring safety from these potential negative consequences? Sunscreen ofcourse! But it's important to pick the right one. Most people's attitude is : "I'm just going to lather on this bad boy all over and I should be good to go". But honestly, more is not always better. Let's dive into the science. Sunscreen contains inorganic compounds that allow our skin to act as a natural barriers to block the sun's harmful UV rays. It reflects the light off our skin. On top of this, some of these compounds themselves absorb the harmful light rays packing one-two punch. The primary ingredient that does is called Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide. This dissipates heat while absorbing the UV radiation. So what does SPF mean? SPF is the "Sunburn Protection Factor" but honestly its not a number that we need to concern ourselves with too much. Why is that? Well, the SPF number is just a comparison tool. It compares how long you can stay out in the sun WITH sunscreen on without getting harmed compare to one hour in the sun WITHOUT sunscreen. So for example, a bottle that says SPF 30 would allow you to stay out for 30 hours and would do the same damage to your skin compared to a person that did not have sunscreen on at all. Experts agree that the actual number should be less emphasized than the ingredients in the product itself. That's definitely something to keep in mind as you select the right sunscreen for all your summer shenanigans! Research also shows that constantly re-applying sunscreen does not aid in boosting the positive effects after a one-time usage. More than anything, it just makes us look like we got covered in cake at our own birthday! Awareness should rather be put on how often we're removing the sunscreen by toweling off whilst still in the sun. What does Columbia Eyebrow Microblading Recommend? A personal favorite of ours and one that is very popular on the market is the "YourGoodSkin Anti Oxidant Day Cream SPF 30. I never get burnt and am always protected appropriately with this product covering me! It's also affordable and available at any CVS, Target, Walmart, or any other cosmetic store! Be sure to share this information if you found it helpful and educate your friends and family about what to really look for in the right sunscreen!
